ALED hosted a three-day regional workshop bringing together agricultural finance experts, policymakers, and technology innovators to explore solutions for improving smallholder farmers' access to capital and risk management tools.
Bridging the Finance Gap
Despite agriculture's central role in African economies, smallholder farmers face persistent challenges in accessing affordable finance. The workshop examined innovative approaches including blended finance structures, index-based insurance products, and digital lending platforms.
"Unlocking agricultural finance is essential for food security and rural development," explained workshop organizer Dr. Samuel Ochieng. "The solutions exist—our challenge is scaling them effectively."
Key Outcomes
Participants developed a regional action plan for agricultural finance reform, including recommendations for regulatory changes, public-private partnership models, and technology adoption strategies. ALED will coordinate follow-up activities and track implementation progress.
